Reno Property Market and Real Estate Guide

(Reno, Nevada - NV, USA)

Picture showing view of RenoReno is the fourth-largest city in Nevada, and the city's warm weather provides a popular place to live for over some 220,000 residents, in addition to the almost 100,000 in neighboring Sparks. The 'Biggest Little City in the World' has much to offer in terms of affordable housing, safe neighborhoods, and a reasonable cost of living.

The city has seen much condo development in its downtown area during the past 15 years, largely due to casino closings, giving opportunities for home-buyers who wish to own property during their stay here. If a traditional home is preferred above a contemporary abode, there are many classic-style historical houses throughout the city and suburbs.

The redevelopment of the downtown area has led to the construction of many facilities offering serviced apartments. The newer buildings have state-of-the-art amenities and are more in demand than the somewhat older constructs, making them a more expensive option, although still affordable.

Renting Serviced Apartments

If renting a serviced apartment, the downtown area gives the most choices and flexibility, although a short drive west to Sparks will also provide choices, albeit at a slightly lower rate and without some of the amenities. The new developments in downtown Reno are coupled with a local government initiative to reduce noise and traffic, making the area more hospitable than in previous years.

Reno is a highly popular tourist destination, with serviced apartments being an appealing choice for short term stays, although more affordable rates apply when signing a lease for a year or more. The typical arrangement requires the equivalent of three months' worth of rent in order to move in, although some of the upscale establishments will require additional security deposits.

Buying Apartments and Houses

Condos and apartments are available for purchase throughout the downtown area and can be an attractive purchase for those living here for one to two years. Houses are in good supply, although the wide variety of neighborhoods offers extremes of cost. The Donner Springs area sees more affordable housing relative to the Old Southwest and Hidden Valley districts.

The last five years have been something of a buyer's market in Reno, with the cost of housing dropping considerably in the greater metropolitan area. While the higher-priced new developments in the downtown area may be out of reach for some buyers, it is not difficult to find convenient locations with plenty of available space.

Real Estate Agents

The real estate industry is saturated with agents throughout the Reno / Sparks area, since this region has become an extremely popular place to live, attracting people from all over the US. Finding the right realtor with knowledge and experience of the area is critical.
