Founded in 1931, Reno's Nevada Museum of Art features historical exhibitions and an interesting collection of contemporary art. Although more than 70 years old, the museum is now housed in a new building, which is a piece of artwork in itself.

Another one of Reno's museums, the National Automobile Museum is a must-see and offers quiet respite from the gambling. There are hundreds of ancient vehicles here, with gems such as James Dean's 1949 Mercury Coupe, from the cult movie Rebel Without a Cause, a gold-plated 1981 De Lorean LK Sport Coupe and a late 19th-century Philion Road Carriage. In all, there are over 200 vintage and classic autos here, including snazzy vehicles from the Harrah Collection.
