The city is also home to numerous budget motels and features all of the well-known lodging chains.

Accommodation varies greatly in price, depending both upon the season and time of week. Midweek prices at many of the city's hotels can become extremely inexpensive, offering excellent value for money. During major events and the peak season, popular accommodation is often fully booked. Notable Reno events include musical festivals in the summer, the Great Reno Balloon Race in the fall, and skiing around nearby Lake Tahoe, California, during the winter months.

Where to Stay

Downtown Reno is full of lively, colorful casinos and hotels, especially along Virginia Street - the 'Strip' area. Hotels in the downtown district are never far from top restaurants and well-stocked shopping centers. Additional accommodation in the area can be found in the neighboring city of Sparks, and also within the suburb of Spanish Springs - a scenic region on the northeastern side of Reno, where mountainous scenery abounds.

Further hotels are sited on the outskirts of Reno, in nearby towns, cities and villages, such as:

Close by, the Pyramid Lake lies some 25 miles / 40 km to the north and within the Paiute Indian Reservation, where various camping opportunities present themselves. The shoreline of the Pyramid Lake is quite beautiful and lined with beaches, as well as some interesting natural formations of porous tufa rock.

A number of hotels and reasonably priced motels are also close to the nearby Reno-Tahoe International Airport (RNO), which lies to the southeast of the downtown district and next to the Highway US-395. Airport hotels are often popular with business travelers visiting Reno for a meeting, and grouped around the Terminal Way, where the Best Western Airport Plaza offers the closest accommodation, just minutes from the terminal.

Budget hotels in Reno are concentrated along East Second Street, Market Street, North and South Virginia Street, North Arlington Avenue, North Sierra Street and South Lake Street. Particularly cheap is the two-star lodging provided by the Super 8 Motel on North Virginia Street, which is situated alongside the University of Nevada, the MacKay Stadium and the Reno Lawlor Events Center. Also of note is the Days Inn on East 7th Street, which features two-star accommodation near to the Livestock Events Center and the downtown casinos.

Mid-range hotels in Reno can be found around South Virginia Street, West Street and North Sierra Street, where the three-star Circus Circus Hotel Casino dominates the area, towering 27 storeys high and boasting almost 1,600 guest rooms. The Circus Circus serves as the city's premier entertainment complex and comes with over 1,000 slot machines, just under 40 gaming tables and a choice of restaurants. If you crave luxury accommodation in Reno, then the five-star Tuscany Tower Peppermill lies along the city's main thoroughfare, near to Virginia Lake Park, and ranks amongst the city's finest casino complexes.
