Reno Neighborhoods, Locations and Districts

(Reno, Nevada - NV, USA)

Affectionately known as the 'Biggest Little City in the World', Reno certainly lives up to its reputation and has the best of both worlds. Reno features big city attractions and yet maintains a small town feel, with a number of charming neighborhoods and districts. Originally fat from the profits of gold in the region, the city turned to gambling to keep its head above the clouds when this precious metal became exhausted.

Today, Reno is a combination of stylish casinos, colorful shows and festivals, and other world-class attractions that make this a wonderful alternative to Las Vegas and nearby Tahoe. The city rises out of the desert, with lush valleys sandwiched between awesome mountains all round.

Downtown District

Downtown Reno is where you want to be for all the action of the casinos and other city attractions. The Virginia Street corridor serves as the city's 'Strip' and is one of bright lights and flashy casinos, being home to the famous Reno Arch that welcomes visitors with the phrase 'The Biggest Little City in the World'. The shopping and dining options within the downtown district are also comparable to other cities of this size in the US.

Northwest Reno District

One of the newer and up-and-coming districts in the city, Northwest Reno is situated to the north of the popular McCarran and Mae Ann region. This area is far enough away from the center to offer easy access to nature, with parks and hiking trails in abundance. Northwest Reno used to be one of the fastest growing parts of the city and it's easy to see why people would want to be out this way, with its stylish older neighborhoods, especially around the Keystone area near 7th Street.

Sparks

Not far from Spanish Springs, Sparks is another well-established city to the north of Reno, with a superb location and excellent facilities. There is a thriving arts scene here, great shopping and dining, good entertainment opportunities and better access to the great outdoors, with nearby skiing, golf, horseback riding and hiking. Transport in Reno's twin city of Sparks is also good.

Spanish Springs

Spanish Springs, an affluent community in the northeast of the city, has become one of the region's most sought after locations for property and is a viable alternative for peace and quiet away from the casino madness of downtown Reno. This district belongs to the Reno-Sparks Metropolitan Statistical Area and is particularly noted for its wide open spaces of parkland and riding trails, owing to its closer proximity to the mountains and nature.
